The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 1994 and referred to the House Constitutional and Statutory Revision committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 20, 1994. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 16–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 10, 1994 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on March 22, 1994 and was referred to the Senate Public Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 6, 1994. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 3, 1994 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote. On May 3, 1994 the Senate adopted “Suspend Rules for 3rd reading”, on a motion by Sen. Delahunty. The bill was enrolled on May 17, 1994 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 27, 1994, making it Chapter 225 of the session laws. It took effect on July 26, 1994.
