HB 1225 (1994)

relative to access to medical care.

  • Status: Vetoed, override failed
  • Term: 1993-1994
  • House committee: Judiciary
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Public and Mental Health

The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 1994 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 12, 1994. The committee held a work session on January 31, 1994. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 14–5. On March 10, 1994 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 22, 1994 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 11, 1994. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 3, 1994 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 13–10. On May 3, 1994 the Senate adopted “Suspend Rules for 3rd reading”, on a motion by Sen. Delahunty. The bill was enrolled on May 11, 1994 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on May 23, 1994. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On June 22, 1994 the House voted 174–184 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
