HB 1180 (1994)

modifying the arson statutes to include historic structures and increasing the penalty.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1993-1994
  • House committee: Corrections and Criminal Justice
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Crimes, Criminal Procedure and Corrections
  • Chapter law: 346

The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 1994 and referred to the House Public Protection and Veterans Affairs committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Corrections and Criminal Justice committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on January 25, 1994. The committee held a work session on February 3, 1994. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 12–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 10, 1994 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on March 22, 1994 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 6, 1994. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On May 10, 1994 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 11, 1994 the House voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On May 12, 1994 the Senate adopted “Accede to Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. On May 24, 1994 the Senate adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. On May 26, 1994 the House adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 1994 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 8, 1994, making it Chapter 346 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 1995.
