  • Term: 1993-1994
  • House committee: Corrections and Criminal Justice
  • Senate committee: Judiciary

The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 1993 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 1, 1993. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On March 4, 1993 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the House on March 17, 1993 and was referred to the House Corrections and Criminal Justice committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 30, 1993. The committee held work sessions on April 6, 1993 and April 14, 1993. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 18–0. On April 29, 1993 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 18, 1993 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment () was adopted on a voice vote on June 3, 1993. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 9, 1993 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (3003) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 15, 1993, making it Chapter 258 of the session laws. It took effect on August 14, 1993.
