The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 1993 and referred to the Senate Banks committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 27, 1993. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 4, 1993 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the House on March 10, 1993 and was referred to the House Commerce, Small Business and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 30, 1993. The committee held a work session on April 6, 1993. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 13–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 22, 1993 the House voted to pass it with changes. On May 11, 1993 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On May 25, 1993 the House adopted “Accede to Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 1, 1993 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On June 9, 1993 the House adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. On June 9, 1993 the Senate adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 17, 1993 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 23, 1993, making it Chapter 316 of the session laws. It took effect on August 22, 1993.
