relative to contracts between public adjusters and insureds and relative to continuing education for adjusters.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1993-1994
  • House committee: Commerce, Small Business and Consumer Affairs
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 317

The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 1993 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 27, 1993. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On February 11, 1993 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the House on March 10, 1993 and was referred to the House Commerce, Small Business and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 6, 1993. The committee held work sessions on April 14, 1993 and April 20, 1993. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 13–1, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 29, 1993 the House voted to pass it with changes. On May 11, 1993 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On May 25, 1993 the House adopted “Accede to Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 1, 1993 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On June 9, 1993 the House adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. On June 9, 1993 the Senate adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 17, 1993 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 23, 1993, making it Chapter 317 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 1994.
