The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 1993 and referred to the Senate Appropriations committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 26, 1993. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On April 15, 1993 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the House on April 15, 1993 and was referred to the House Appropriations committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 27, 1993. The majority of the committee recommended that the House kill it by a vote of 11–10. On May 11, 1993 the House voted to kill it on a voice vote. On May 20, 1993 the House adopted “Reconsider” on a division vote 246–101, on a motion by Rep. Hawkins. On May 20, 1993 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 25, 1993 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 9, 1993 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 10, 1993, making it Chapter 233 of the session laws. It took effect on June 10, 1993.
