The Story
It was introduced on January 7, 1993 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 26, 1993. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 15–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 3, 1993 the House voted to pass it with changes, then referred it on to the House Appropriations committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 19, 1993. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it by a vote of 11–10. On April 8, 1993 the House adopted “Special Order to 04/13/1993” on a voice vote. On April 13, 1993 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on April 15, 1993 and was referred to the Senate Insurance committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 6, 1993. The committee held a work session on May 17, 1993. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 19, 1993 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 9, 1993 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 15, 1993, making it Chapter 249 of the session laws. It took effect on August 14, 1993.
