The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 1993 and referred to the House Corrections and Criminal Justice committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 28, 1993. The committee held work sessions on February 9, 1993, February 16, 1993, March 1, 1993 and March 2, 1993. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 12–1. On March 10, 1993 the House adopted “Special Order to 03/11/1993”. On March 11, 1993 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 11, 1993 and was referred to the Senate Public Affairs committee. The Senate withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Judiciary committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on April 14, 1993. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On April 27, 1993 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 11, 1993 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 13, 1993 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 19, 1993, making it Chapter 155 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 1993.
