HB 490 (1993)

permitting a registered voter who is registered as undeclared to vote in a primary election and on the day of the primary election register again as undeclared.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1993-1994
  • House committee: Constitutional and Statutory Revision
  • Senate committee: Executive Departments and Administration
  • Subject: Elections
  • Chapter law: 193

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 1993 and referred to the House Constitutional and Statutory Revision committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 2, 1993. The majority recommended that the House kill it, and the minority recommended that the House pass it, by a vote of 10–8. On February 18, 1993 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. On February 18, 1993 the House failed “Reconsider” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Lozeau. It crossed to the Senate on March 4, 1993 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 25, 1993. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On May 11, 1993 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 18, 1993 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 3, 1993 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 9, 1993, making it Chapter 193 of the session laws. It took effect on August 8, 1993.
