The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 1993 and referred to the House Constitutional and Statutory Revision committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 13, 1993. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 14–5. On February 4, 1993 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 18, 1993 and was referred to the Senate Public Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 3, 1993. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On April 27, 1993 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 4, 1993 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 11, 1993 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 17, 1993, making it Chapter 126 of the session laws. It took effect on July 16, 1993.
