HB 470 (1992)

relative to health maintenance organizations.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1991-1992
  • House committee: Commerce, Small Business and Consumer Affairs
  • Senate committee: Public Institutions, Health and Human Services
  • Subject: Insurance
  • Chapter law: 113

The Story

It was introduced on February 5, 1991 and referred to the House Commerce, Small Business and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 28, 1991. The majority of the committee recommended that the House send it back to committee by a vote of 12–7. On March 19, 1991 the House adopted “Suspend Rules to consider on 03/19/1991”, on a motion by Rep. Gross & Chambers. On March 19, 1991 the bill was referred to the Commerce, Small Business and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held work sessions on October 17, 1991, October 23, 1991 and October 30, 1991. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 12–5. On January 9, 1992 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 4, 1992 and was referred to the Senate Public Institutions, Health and Human Services committee. The committee recommended that the Senate kill it. On April 14, 1992 the Senate rejected a motion to study it after the session ends on a division vote 7–15, on a motion by Sen. Colantuono. On April 14, 1992 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 14–8. The bill was enrolled on April 23, 1992 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 1, 1992, making it Chapter 113 of the session laws. It took effect on June 30, 1992.
