HB 1498-FN (1992)
relative to drug forfeiture.
- Status: Vetoed, override failed
- Term: 1991-1992
- House committee: Judiciary
- Senate committee: Judiciary
- Subject: Crimes, Criminal Procedure and Corrections
The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 1992 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 13, 1992. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 13–2, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 3, 1992 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on March 4, 1992 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 25, 1992. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 21, 1992 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote. On April 22, 1992 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 17–5. The bill was enrolled on May 6, 1992 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on May 8, 1992. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On May 27, 1992 the House voted 157–192 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
