HB 1407 (1992)

repealing laws relative to abortion.

  • Status: Vetoed
  • Term: 1991-1992
  • House committee: Judiciary
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Miscellaneous

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 1992 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 15–3. On March 3, 1992 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 4, 1992 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 30, 1992. The committee recommended that the Senate kill it. On April 9, 1992 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on April 16, 1992 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on April 16, 1992. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On April 29, 1992 the House voted to lay it on the table on a roll call 254–78. On May 27, 1992 the House voted to kill it on a voice vote.
