SB 173-FN-A (1991)

relative to senior "meals on wheels" and senior transportation and making an appropriation therefor.

  • Status: Vetoed, override failed
  • Term: 1991-1992
  • House committee: Appropriations
  • Senate committee: Public Institutions, Health and Human Services
  • Subject: Miscellaneous

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 1991 and referred to the Senate Public Institutions, Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 6, 1991. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 14, 1991 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 18–4, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. On March 28, 1991 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the House on April 2, 1991 and was referred to the House Appropriations committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 10, 1991. The majority of the committee recommended that the House kill it by a vote of 11–7. On May 14, 1991 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 21, 1991 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on May 27, 1991. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On May 28, 1991 the Senate voted 6–17 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
