The Story

It crossed to the Senate on March 24, 1989 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held public hearings on April 12, 1989 and May 3, 1989. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 4, 1989 the Senate voted to pass it. The bill was enrolled on May 16, 1989 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 22, 1989, making it Chapter 200 of the session laws. It took effect on May 22, 1989.
