Committee — OUGHT TO PASS
The survivors of the USS Liberty attack have appeared before this committee three times over the last two terms. In every case, they described the incident from their individual perspectives, outlining the details of that day with the same acknowledgment that their vessel was clearly marked, on a calm sea, during a sunny day, and the attack went on for an hour from both sky and sea. Upon their return to port, the survivors were threatened and ordered to remain silent. The official US investigation, which lasted less than a week, determined the attack was mistaken identity, which was contrary to every story this committee heard. As such, we are requesting through a resolution, that Congress reopen the investigation, declassify remaining documents regarding the event, and give the surviving crew members closure they deserve. Vote 13-0.
