By inviting these diverse perspectives, this resolution challenges the growing trend of ideological silos without mandating curriculum, compelling invitations, or infringing on academic freedom. This isn’t about seeking special treatment; it is about ensuring New Hampshire’s tax-funded institutions remain open to all viewpoints. Ultimately, this resolution preserves New Hampshire’s tradition of robust, civil debate, ensuring a well-rounded education that focuses on teaching students how to think, rather than telling them what to think. Vote 10-7.

Minority — INEXPEDIENT TO LEGISLATE

This resolution encourages state colleges and universities to invite more conservative speakers to campus. Although the premise contained in the resolution unequivocally condemns political violence and intimidation and encourages faculty and student organizations to engage invited speakers with respectful questioning and debate, the directive emphasizing one set of speakers over another by encouraging the institutions to host “more conservative speakers” violates the very premise the resolution seeks to protect. The state university’s policy on free speech states “…we believe that freedom of speech and free expression is fundamental to our identity as an institution of higher learning. We strive to foster an inclusive community that promotes respect, intellectual growth and the exploration of diverse perspectives.” Placing a thumb on the scale for one perspective over another, violates the spirit and letter of this policy. 36 27 FEBRUARY 2026
