Committee — OUGHT TO PASS
This bill establishes a 5% public safety surcharge on paid parking only at state park facilities and creates a dedicated, nonlapsing fund to return those revenues quarterly to host municipalities for police, fire, and emergency medical services attributable to park visitation. The committee discussed the bill’s limited scope, noting that it does not apply to free parking or park admission, creates no new enforcement or criminal penalties, and is collected through existing Department of Natural and Cultural Resources parking systems. The committee found the measure to be a reasonable shared-responsibility approach that supports local public safety without diverting core park revenues. Vote 14-0.
