Committee — OUGHT TO PASS WITH AMENDMENT
This bill was introduced to address challenges faced by business owners who are subject to significant unexpected new costs to update buildings when fire codes change. Providing protection for business owners who must finance the cost of code mandated updates after taking a significant financial risk to open a business is an important policy decision, but not one which the committee was able to address this year. As amended, the bill will provide greater pathways for appeals of decisions and facilitate greater code flexibility. Vote 14-0.
