Committee — INEXPEDIENT TO LEGISLATE
This bill proposes expanding the powers and authority granted to student members of school boards, as well as requiring extremely prescriptive processes on schools for elections, disputes, and authorizes discipline for violations. We believe student members, if allowed at all, must remain learning-focused and functionally powerless, as they are minors, and they are incapable of contracting or being held accountable by the public via normal mechanisms. We also believe the mandates placed on schools are excessive and impractical. Vote 16-0.
