Committee — OUGHT TO PASS WITH AMENDMENT

Rep. Tom Mannion

New Hampshire had one of the strictest definitions for veteran status in the country, and this bill seeks to correct that. No one would argue that an individual that served their country, but was discharged for either violating “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” or for not accepting a COVID shot would not be defined as a veteran. Those individuals would now be covered under the expanded definition that would include “General Discharge, under Honorable Conditions” that even the Department of Veterans Affairs accepts as qualifying status for benefits. As such, the committee voted unanimously to support this bill. Vote 17-0.
