Committee — OUGHT TO PASS

Rep. Katelyn Kuttab

This CACR eliminates the office of register of probate and all references to such office from part two articles 71 and 81 in the state constitution. In 2011, the legislature reorganized the district, probate and family division into a new circuit court. This reorganization involved transferring all responsibilities from the elected register of probate position to the clerk of the probate division of the circuit court. Despite still being elected, the registers have had no duties since then, but continue to receive an annual salary of $100. A previous CACR measure in 2022, which sought to remove this position, received 62.8% of the vote, falling short of the required 2/3 majority. The current version of the CACR has been revised to more clearly inform voters about what they’re voting for. Vote 13-2.
